City Art in Columbia, SC, Features Varied Exhibits For Vista Lights
City Art in Columbia, SC, will feature several exhibitions and activities during this year's Vista Lights, taking place Nov. 16, from 5-10pm, including the exhibition, Faces and Figures, a presentation of powerful works by Alex Powers of Myrtle Beach, SC, an exhibit of works by the Columbia Communicating Arts Society, and works by Mary Bentz Gilkerson, Deborah Lengel, and Ann McCants.
Powers exhibits in galleries in five states and has earned many national juried exhibition awards. He travels and teaches workshops in this country and abroad. His painting style has evolved into personal, content-dominated imagery, attempting to deal with issues such as human origins, religion, philosophy, racism, economic inequality, etc. Powers' exhibit will continue on view through Dec. 3, 2000.
The Columbia Communicating Arts Society is celebrating the 6th year of the InShow, a juried showcase competition created to recognize the finest creative work produced in the Columbia market. The InShow benefits the Columbia marketing and advertising community by giving professionals an opportunity to have their work presented directly to their peers, the business community and the general public. Meet some graphic art professionals and see their work at City Art during Vista Lights.
Also showing work during Vista Lights, Mary Bentz Gilkerson, professor of art at Columbia College. Gilkerson will be showing new oil landscapes and chatting with visitors during the evening. Deborah Lengel, art instructor at Sandel Elementary School, will be chatting with visitor and showing her latest small works on paper. And, Winnsboro, SC, artist Ann McCants, will be painting and showing her ethnic folk art. McCants is self taught and spiritually inspired.
