Toe River Arts Council in Spruce Pine, NC, Features Spring Studio Tour June 12 & 13, 2004
June is the month of bluebirds, rhododendrons and beautiful scenery in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. That's why the Toe River Arts Council has moved its popular Spring Studio Tour from early May to June 12 & 13, 2004. More than 100 fine artists and crafts people will open their studios both days from 10am-5pm for browsing and buying.
Near the renowned Penland School of Crafts,
celebrating its 75th anniversary, both internationally known and
emerging artists in every medium have settled into what has become
one of the finest communities of both traditional and contemporary
craft artists in the country. Twice a year, they open their studios
to visitors from the mountain states and far beyond who are hoping
to find a treasure while touring the countryside.
Deana Blanchard and Chuck Young's glass and metal screens, Billie
Ruth Sudduth's baskets and Yvonne Hegney's clay and mixed media
vessels are in collections around the world while Ila Seltzer's
fiber sculpture and Linda MacMichael's handmade purses are just
beginning to be discovered.
"I don't know of any other Studio Tour that offers so many choices of high quality crafts in every medium," says Denise Cook, director of the arts council. "Over 25 years, we've earned a reputation as a premier event, growing both in size and quality."
Examples of tour participants' work will be
on display at the Toe River Arts Council's gallery in Spruce Pine
during the tour dates.
Tour maps will be available to be printed from the Arts Council's
website at (www.toeriverarts.org). The web map is printed in
two sections: Mitchell and Yancey counties. The artists represented
on the tour are also listed on two separate pages: Mitchell County
sites and Yancey County sites. Print all four pages for a complete
map or pick one up the day of the tour at any of the participating
studios or galleries.
